The highlights of the day before Nyepi are the Ogoh-Ogoh parades. During sunset, the Balinese parade the streets of their village with their gigantic statues, which took them approximately two months (and probably a whole lot of Bintangs) to build. Ogoh-Ogohs are made of bamboo and paper and represent evil creatures. During the parade a passionate but deafening mixture of the kulkul, claxons, gamelan and drum music is played. The idea is to make as much noise as possible to scare away evil spirits. ⠀⠀⠀ Parades take place all over the island, but the most famous ones can be observed in the streets of Kuta, Legian and Seminyak. In an attempt to put an end to any evil influences in live, the statues are burnt after the parade and this is followed by a great party, whereby Balinese party, drink and feast till late. ⠀⠀⠀ Next morning comes with Silence , because the whole island of Bali is getting into another phase of celebrating : Nyepi , which means - Silence day. The most important and sacred day in Balinese culture. The only place in the world, where you will find a closed airport due to religion . Religious police is walking around the town for the whole day, making sure , that nobody makes any sound and stays indoors. This is the only day, when you are not allowed to use electricity and be loud . The purpose of this day is simple. Balinese culture says, that all evil creatures will still be on the streets , and because they wont find anyone - they will be gone by the end of the day. So stay indoors , and meditate, while evil is wondering around for you :)

It’s been 14 months since I am jobless and since I am traveling the world. After Iceland I went back to UK to spend couple of months chilling and preparing for the trip, then went back to my home country Latvia to say good bye, and on 2.12.2021 I went back to Asia, starting from the place I loved so much - Bali. Since then I visited Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand and I am not even close to stop my journey.I have been through so many ups and downs during my trip in SEA , but the only thing which left in my head is- good memories and experience. And friends , of course. Friends from all over the world. Ideas, possibilities, and again - memories. Now I am sitting in coffee shop around the boarding gates and waiting for my flight. Its time for another unknown destination - New Zealand . What will happen next? I Don’t know, where I will settle ? I Don’t know. I just wanted to tell you, that every moment in your life lead you towards the moment you are in right now. Every good, and every bad moment. If I would stay in Bali back in 2019 - who knows what would of happen, but I am surely know, that those decisions slowly led me towards my life right now, and it was a hell of a year I would tell you ! So, be happy for every moment and see you somewhere on the road (or, in a luxury hotel, haha)

One of the things, that makes traveling so unique is observing local people of the place u are in being real and living a normal life. ⠀⠀⠀ All you have to do is get out of touristy zone and head towards local streets, hoods, villages. As soon as you will make it - your travel experience will go to another level. ⠀⠀⠀ This set of images is a proof. I spent few minutes staring at kids playing games in Kalinga village and i was so obsessed with them. ⠀⠀⠀ Atmosphere of pure happiness. Childhood. Innocent souls. All in one. ⠀⠀⠀ I will remember this morning for a long time. And who knows , maybe one day i will be walking down the street, and one of these kids, already being a teenager or adult - will pass me, not even knowing, that few years back i was observing him playing with his fellas somewhere deep in Philippine villages.

Singapore Lightning and Balinese dark mood. ⠀⠀⠀ I love bright city lights, when city is surrounded by lanterns, Chinese adverts and billion of shops all around. ⠀⠀⠀ Bali, from the other hand, cant offer you much of lightning, if it comes to normal day, but one day is definitely worth waiting for. Kids of Kalinga, Buscalan. ⠀⠀⠀Highlight of the trip to Kalinga was for sure Whang-Od , but i would never forget those kids , that were playing on the street with rubber and plastic bottles and this lovely little lady, that eats rice from the bowl. ⠀⠀⠀Every single human from village was very welcoming, and even tho it was pretty hard to communicate with most of them : i found this stay very special to me and my heart. ⠀⠀⠀I hope, this village will keep growing and Whang-Od will live many more years, making people from all over the world happy by doing her signature tattoos.

Balinese villages after the rain. ⠀⠀⠀Somehow this environment gives me a deep feeling of being in Japan. Do you feel the same ? ⠀⠀⠀It was one of those rainy days , when i picked my bike with my fellow mate and went around the island to explore the beauty of unknown. ⠀⠀⠀Same day we stumbled upon one super friendly family, and since then , i can proudly say , that family of Ketut is one of the loveliest families i have ever met . It was a pleasure to come once again and enjoy the tea with the guys and it was such a blessing to see the of how they live .

Whang-Od Oggay - is a Filipina tattoo artist from Buscalan, Kalinga village. She is tend to be the oldest and the last real mambabatok ( traditional Kalinga tattoo artist) , which is part of But But tribe . ⠀⠀⠀ This year she turned 105, and i decided not to loose a chance while in Philippines, and try visiting this incredible human, that used to do tattoos for head hunters back in the days, when tribes were fighting each other in those districts. ⠀⠀⠀ As soon as i arrived to the village, i was stumbled with ethnic authenticity. My mind was totally blown out by these people and how isolated they are from the world. ⠀⠀⠀ Without a hitch i decided to make one of the signature tattoos by incredible Whang Od . ⠀⠀⠀ Imagine - 105 years old woman is pinching you with wooden needle. Her eyes have seen so many people from all over the world in the past few years. When she looks at you , you can feel the flow of experience flying through your body. You shake, but thats not a stress. Thats something else . Something indescribable. ⠀⠀⠀ I have no idea how many moreYears people will be lucky to come and visit her , but i did it for myself , and this memory will be left on my hand as a lifetime experience. ⠀⠀⠀ I wish you many more healthy years and smile , Whang Od , you are one of a kind.
